Rules: how a Beyblade X battle works
A Beyblade X battle often lasts only a few seconds. To keep it fair, there are a few simple rules. Here they are for playing at home and at tournaments.
How a battle works
- Both players put their Bey in the launcher and hold it over the stadium.
- Both launch at the same time on a shared countdown. In Japan, players call out “3, 2, 1, Go Shoot!”.
- The battle ends as soon as a Bey stops spinning, flies out of the stadium or bursts apart. The winner scores points.
- Then you launch again until one player has enough points.
What earns points
| Finish | What happens? | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Spin Finish | The opponent's Bey stops spinning first. | 1 point |
| Over Finish | The opponent flies into one of the Over Zones (pockets at the edge). | 2 points |
| Burst Finish | The opponent bursts apart into its parts. | 2 points |
| Xtreme Finish | The opponent flies into the Xtreme Zone in front of the Xtreme Line. | 3 points |
In official tournaments, the first to reach 4 points usually wins. If both Beys stop at the same time or both fly out, it usually counts as a draw with no points.
Launch rules
- Launch together: anyone who launches clearly too early or too late usually has to relaunch.
- Hands off: during the battle nobody touches the Beys or the stadium.
- Originals only: at official tournaments only parts from Takara Tomy and Hasbro are allowed.
- Exact rules: the organizer sets them. Best to read up or ask before the tournament.
Tournaments: decks and 3on3
At tournaments you usually play with a deck of three Beys (3on3). Each part may appear only once per deck, so never the same Blade, Ratchet or Bit twice.
The Beys of the deck battle one after another, and the points of all battles are added up until someone reaches the required score. Many tournaments first play several rounds in the Swiss system, where you face opponents of similar strength, followed by a final round with the best players.
Which combos are winning tournaments right now is shown in the Meta Tier List. How to build a deck is explained in the guide The best combos for beginners.
Playing at home
- What you need: for two players, one Xtreme Stadium, two Beys and two launchers are enough.
- Play safely: only launch into the stadium, never aim at people or animals, and don’t lean over the stadium when launching.
- House rules: at home you can play however you like, for example up to 7 points or everyone against everyone. The only thing that matters is that everyone knows the rules beforehand.
